Vermont Works for Women has an extensive record of accomplishment in working with women, young adults, educators, and employers across the state in developing, implementing, and growing innovative programs. VWW addresses the need for women in Vermont to earn a livable wage and to succeed despite numerous personal, educational, and economic barriers to employment.
An example of one of VWW’s innovative programs is “Fresh Energy.” Women are trained and employed in the fields of construction, efficiency and renewable energy. Participants will be cross-trained to perform weatherization work and install solar trackers. They will perform both jobs throughout the program (though some participants may well gravitate to one or the other as they gain experience). Another innovative program is Rosie's Girls Summer camp. Young girls (11 to 13) learn basic skills in trades such as carpentry, welding, electrical wiring, and auto repair. These nontraditional activities build self-esteem, perseverance, and leadership, giving young girls a broader sense of themselves and their capabilities.
