Family Center of Washington County
The Family Center fosters the positive growth and development of young children and their families. For 39 years, the organization has helped more than 4,000 families in 23 Central Vermont towns navigate the challenges of raising young children. The Center offers a sliding scale so that all families, regardless of income, can receive quality child care. Fifteen separate programs help parents find, and pay for, child care and offer parent education, playgroups, and wrap-around services to teen parents. Families at risk or with children with special needs receive home visits from staff.
In 2009, the Family Center opened its new facility – its first permanent home. The new facility doubled the number of spaces for infant and toddler care – the most needed type of child care. This was a vital step not only for the organization but for the health and well-being of the Central Vermont community.
